Academic Development Syllabus & Workshop Schedule

 

With regard to the academic goals and objectives of our program, some of the benefits of being a CSTEP student include:

  • The utilization of a solution-focused approach.

  • 3 + individual appointments to discuss goals, develop individual action plans, and discuss strategies.

  • A one-credit weekly workshop series (Tuesdays) that is focused on academic development. Topics include: (Setting Goals, Directions to an “A”, Time Management, A Life Long Learner, Learning Style Preferences, Effective Note – Taking, Keys to Unlocking Textbooks, Concentration and Memory, Test-Taking and Self-Testing, MLA and Creating an Outline, Graduate School, Multiple Choice and Essay Questions).

  • 6 Professional tutors who are available during the day, evenings, and some weekends. Students are required to have 25 tutoring appointments with tutors and/or professors during the semester.

    Spring 2007 Tutor Utilization: 405 visits – 448 hours
    Fall 2007 Tutor Utilization: 613 visits – 865 hours

  • Various study rooms which students are required to utilize. Attendance is recorded and reinforced.

    Spring 2007 Study Room Utilization: 991 visits – 1867 hours
    Fall 2007 Study Room Utilization: 3582 visits – 6748 hours

  • Extensive lending loan library

  • Laptops for Loan

  • Peer Support—Peer tutoring

  • Books loan
