How to Join


Student completes an application (available at the CSTEP Office in Helyar Hall or on-line) Student meets the following criteria:

  • Be a New York State Resident
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher (80% or higher high school average for new students).
  • Be considered either historically underrepresented (based on race and ethnicity) OR economically disadvantaged.
  • Be enrolled in a scientific, technical,or  health related field and/or major that leads to a licensed profession.


Student returns the completed application to CSTEP Staff. (Student may be placed on a waiting list based on current CSTEP enrollment.)


Student will be asked to come for an introductory interview.

Goals CSTEP Student will meet

  • Maintain a 2.5 grade point average or higher
  • Schedule and attend a check-in meeting at least 3 times each semester
  • Meet with all professors during office hours at least once a semester
  • Attend CSTEP meetings
  • Attend meetings and participate with students in your CSTEP profession group
  • Attend or provide tutoring for at least 10 hours during the semester
  • Participate in and document at least 10 hours of community service a semester
  • Attend at least one academic workshop a semester
  • Your own personal goals
